James Henri's 2005 article 'Understanding the information literate school Community' has me thinking about my own school and whether it is an information literate school community. I have never heard of the term before.
Having just finished reading this article for the 2nd time, my initial thoughts are that it sadly isn't an information literate school community. Students only know one method of research and that's to "Google it". It's just so sad. Cutting and pasting directly from Google, or any website, is another common feature among the boys at my school. That's why it is so imperative that the school changes its structures and encourage staff to collaborate with the teacher libarians so that students can learn information literacy skills. Information literacy should not be taught in isolation but integrated within the curriculum areas.
