Quality management is, I feel, quite a complex concept to get one's head around. While I have a very general idea, it is the number of principles that are associated with it and the terminology that takes a bit of time to understand. It's importance helps turn visions into reality - it's the idea of working on the system to improve the service.

The Quality Management in Education model emphasises creating lifelong, individual learners who consider learning a joy and a pleasure. The success of Quality Management in Education requires schools (and teachers) to change long held ideas and teaching methods which encourage students to become more active participants in the learning process through inquiry learning and more (or encourage) collaboration between teaching staff and teacher librarian. Students learn to accept responsibility for their learning and teachers are considered as a facilitator in the learning process. Importantly, the method teaches enables students to learn how to, rather than what not. To be successful learners students need to be "engaged" in their learning. This is where a teacher librarian can tap into students expertise and interests in using Web 2.0 technologies.

The model explains that everybody involved in education should have input into education - students, teachers, administration and parents. The system believes that current school management practices concentrate on testing and ranking students according to performance, this model considers this method as inefficient learning.

In terms of how a TL might use quality management to enhance their profile, I am not quite sure. I hope to discover and learn more about how this can apply to the TLs role on the forums and add to this post at a later date.
