Henri's ILSC & implications for TLs

I read with interest an article that I initially cited in my first 401 assignment on the TLs role in an ILSC and I skim and scan it to get an overall sense of the professional literature on information literacy. The article emphasises the point that ILSCs rely on principal support of the TLs role as the information specialist.

"When the information literacy focus shifts from students to teachers then the role of the TL and of the principal as information leaders must shift too. TLs must shift their services and their allocation of time towards teachers. Principals must make that happen ...

... the TL cannot expect to achieve radical change on his/her own and therefore must develop a strategy based on alliance making." (p. 1)

Wow, how a few simple sentences can say mean so much. It is up to us, as TLs, to take the leadership here and start collaborating with teachers to enable information literacy to be taken seriously by the school. However, principal support is crucial.

Teachers and students demonstrate problem solving capacities - whereby teachers model good practice.
