I came across these You Tube videos while doing some research for my 401 assignment comparing information literacy process models. While surfing the Net for Big 6 information, I came across a site on the Big 6 blog. I thought these might be worth noting down because of their relvance to students' information literacy skills.
The video offers preliminary findings by the Project Information Literacy team lead by Dr Alison Head and Dr Michael Eisenberg (University of Washington) on what undergraduate university students experience when researching for assignments in the digital age.
This website, http://www.projectinfolit.org/pdfs/PIL_ProgressReport_2_2009.pdf , is sure to be of interest with this assignment on information process models. It will be also useful for future reference when looking for evidence of the importance of information literacy. The You Tube video emphasises the concerns and issues of students in the digital era where they are so overwhelmed with information that they don't know where to start. This video reinforces the importance of my school having an information literacy policy and an information process model in which consult and work through during the process of research. It has long concerned me that the boys at my secondary school finish Year 12 without being equipped with efficient information literacy skills.
